Shockers or shock absorbers are very strong springs. The are fixed below the car body. They are near the wheels. Whenever the car wheels go into uneven surfaces, and bumps, the shock or impulse of the ground is absorbed by the spring.
Then the spring releases the force slowly. So the passengers feel more comfortable inside the car. Also the parts of the car are protected. Otherwise the various screws and other fittings would get loosened.
Further the car remains more stable. Otherwise the car will jump high in the air and face severe damage.
