Four human activities which are mainly responsible for Land Degradation in India are:
1. Deforestation:
The forests are the major channels that connect the land and atmosphere. It traps the sunlight form the atmosphere and uses the ground water and prepares food by releasing oxygen which is used by all types of living organism for its respiration. Humans clear huge forest for their domestic purpose and destroy it.
2. Use of high Quantity of fertilizers:
In order to increase the yield of farming, farmers use high quantity of fertilizers during farming. Though this yields high yield, it causes damages to the agricultural land by making it infertile and unfit for next cultivation.
3. Mining:
In order extract minerals present in the earth, human use large machineries to extract it. While doing this process, sometimes they excavate land by bombarding the upper surface by usage of high load of explosives which causes damages to the land surface.
4. Over-grazing:
The food for live stocks is the small grasses and shrubs present on the land surface. Rapid grazing of such plants, grasses, and shrubs it leads to loosening of the soil present in the upper layer of the land.
