The importance of distribution of well irrigation can be realized from the following merits.

i) Well is a very simple and cheapest source of irrigation. So, all poor farmers can afford it.

ii) The control of the well is in the hands of well owner so, he can use it whenever there will be need of it.  

iii) There is no problem of "reh" in well irrigation.

iv) A well can be dug at the place where it is needed. This is not the case with canal irrigation.
