Answer:
Explanation:
An abyssal plain is an underwater plain on the deep ocean floor, usually found at depths between 3,000 metres (9,800 ft) and 6,000 metres (20,000 ft). Lying generally between the foot of a continental rise and a mid-ocean ridge, abyssal plains cover more than 50% of the Earth’s surface.[1][2] They are among the flattest, smoothest, and least explored regions on Earth.[3] Abyssal plains are key geologic elements of oceanic basins (the other elements being an elevated mid-ocean ridge and flanking abyssal hills).
The creation of the abyssal plain is the result of the spreading of the seafloor (plate tectonics) and the melting of the lower oceanic crust. Magma rises from above the asthenosphere (a layer of the upper mantle), and as this basaltic material reaches the surface at mid-ocean ridges, it forms new oceanic crust, which is constantly pulled sideways by spreading of the seafloor. Abyssal plains result from the blanketing of an originally uneven surface of oceanic crust by fine-grained sediments.
Oceanic trenches are topographic depressions of the sea floor, relatively narrow in width, but very long. These oceanographic features are the deepest parts of the ocean floor. Oceanic trenches are a distinctive morphological feature of convergent plate boundaries, along which lithospheric plates move towards each other at rates that vary from a few millimeters to over ten centimeters per year.
Indian Ocean with respect to following aspect to Ocean Trenches, Abyssal Plains and ridges along with ocean currents.
Explanation:
- Indian ocean being the smallest and geologically the youngest ocean and has an average depth of about 12,990 feet and it's the deepest point is the Sunda deep or the Sunda trench and is formed by the Australian and the Capricorn plates collision and has an underwater system of ridges.
- The abyssal plains are quite rarely found in the Indian ocean and mainly occur in small and flat floors and marginal seas.
- The ridges in the Indian ocean include the Carlsberg Ridge, the Madagascar Ridge, Central Indian Ridge, the Southwest Indian Ridge, Chagos-Laccadive Ridge, the Southeast Indian Ridge, and Broken Ridge, and the East Indiaman Ridge.
- The currents in the Indian ocean include the North East Monsoon Drift. South West Monsoon Drift, and North Equatorial Current (Warm) , South Equatorial Current (Warm) , Somali Current (Cold) , and Mozambique Current (Warm) and the Madagascar Current (Warm) etc.
