Explanation:
- After the Battle Of Plassey in 1757 the British established their rule in India.The British started expanding their territories by annexing one after another Indian territories.
- The British followed the policies of Subsidiary alliance and the Doctrine of lapse as an instrument to expand the British territories in India.
- The Subsidiary Alliance was introduced by the Governor General Lord Wellesley in India. According to the Subsidiary Alliance, the Indian territory accepting this alliance have to allow the British Government to keep their troops in their territory, have to pay Subsidy to the Government, have to keep one British officer in the court, no any relation with any Indian ruler and any Europeans.
- Lord Dalhousie introduced the Doctrine of Lapse in India. According to this policy if the Indian ruler died without any heir the adopted son was not considered as a ruler then ultimately the kingdom would be annexed into the British Empire.
