Explain the isotopes have similar chemical properties but differ in physical properties.

However they have different numbers of neutrons, which affects the mass number. Mass number determines thephysical properties such as boiling/melting/density etc. They have similar chemical properties becauseisotopes of an element have the samenumber of electrons as an atom of that element.

Isotopes have a different number of neutrons in the nucleus. If they had a different number of protons, they'd be a different element. Isotopes of an element have the same number of electrons as an atom of that element. The electron arrangement is the same which is responsible for similar chemical properties
