in the first world war,the empire of ottoman turkey got defeated..

so rumours were spread that harsh peace treaty would be imposed on the king of Islamic world i.e khalifa.

to defend this khalifa..a khilafat committee was formed by ALI BROTHERS..MUHAMMAD N SHAUKAT ALI at Bombay .

they went to meet Gandhiji ..n Gandhiji saw this as an opportunity to unite hindu n Muslims and hence this khilafat movement was raised..
