The joints in the body are the places where two bones are joined together. The joints are strong enough to withstand small accidents. The end of bones are covered with soft cartilage. it acts as a shock absorber and reduces friction between the bones. Cartilage is also present in some parts of the body that are not hard as the bones for example the upper part of the ear.
The bones are held together at the joints bu strong, stretchy bands called ligaments. there are many joints in the body. There are four main types of movable joints and they are

Hinge joint
The elbow, knee and finger joints allow movement in one plane only

Ball and socket joint
The shoulder and hip joints allow movement in all directions

Gliding joint
The wrist or ankle joints have flattened ends of bones that can move against each other. The vertebrae also have similar joints that allow slight movement

pivot joint
The neck joint allows movement in all directions. It allows you to move your head up amd down, left and right and also to rotate it

Hope it helps you...

Joints:-

The structure at which two parts of the skeleton are fitted together are called joints.

There are three types of joints:-

1. Fibrous Joints :-

This type of joints are connected by fibrous connective tissue and there is no joint cavity.

2. Cartilaginous Joints :-

This type of joints are connected by cartilage.

3. Synovial Joints :-

This type of joint is surrounded by a thick flexible membrane forming a sac into which is secreted a viscous fluid that lubricates the joint.
