Liberty- It is also an essential characteristic of democracy. In democratic set up everybody is free to express his opinion, to form associations, to have faith in any religion.

Equality- Equality is also one of the pillars of democracy. In democracy, everybody is given equal status and no discrimination is made based on caste, religion, colour, race etc. Every individual gets equal, economic, political and civil rights.

Rule of Majority- In general elections whichever party gets clear majority forms the government.
