Khilafat movement started to support Turkey's sovereignty. It started in 1919 and ended in 1924. It was lead by many eminent Muslim leaders like Shaukat Ali, Mohammad Ali Jauhar and Abul Kalam. Processions were held across the subcontinent to support the cause. Funds were also being collected for Turkey's support. After the arrest of all Muslim leaders, Gandhi ji decided to lead it and support the cause as he thought of it as an opportunity to make Britishers leave India.
