When the object is at the highest position and is at rest, there is no kinetic energy but a lot of potential energy.
Then the object after crossing half the distance, the kinetic energy and the potential energy contribute equally to the total energy.
Just before it touches the ground, the potential energy is a lot more than the kinetic energy.
On reaching the ground, there is no kinetic energy but a lot of potential energy.
This shows us that the law of conservation of energy is true in the case of a freely falling body.

Hey Friend,
Law of conservation of energy - Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. It only changes from one form to another. The total energy in the system remains same.
In case of freely object,
When the object is at a height, it possesses potential energy equal to mgh and kinetic energy is 0.
When the object is falling, it possesses some potential energy and some kinetic energy equal to mgh.
And when the object reaches the ground, it possesses kinetic energy equal to mgh and the potential energy is 0.
Hope it helps!
