After Mephastophilis informs Faustus that Lucifer has accepted the scholar's offer, Faustus begins immediately to indulge his newfound knowledge and power. As part of this campaign, he has Mephastophilis bring forth Helen of Troy to impress a group of his peers. As he nears the end of his life and realizes the folly of his bargain with the devil, Faustus calls forth Helen again, and marvels on her beauty. He seeks grace and salvation from her, whose beauty is such to transform history.

He says:

"Was this the face that launched a thousand ships

And burnt the topless towers of Ilium?

Sweet Helen, make me immortal with a kiss:

Her lips sucks forth my soul, see where it flies!

Come Helen, come, give me my soul again.

Here will I dwell, for heaven be in these lips."

We see Faustus is seeking a way out of his bargain, but also sees heaven in Helen's beauty, which is temporary and earthly. He is trapped not only in his bargain but the limits of his own perspective on life.
