Inside the cell there exists a membranous network enclosing a fluid-filled lumen which fills up the intercellular cavity. It is called the endoplasmic reticulum. At one end Er is connected to the outer membrane and other end to the plasma member

ER provides a pathway for distribution of material.
Synthesizes fats(lipids),steroids and chloresterol.
