Answer:

the magnetism of earth is caused by the convective motion of metallic fluids i.e Fe, Ni in the outer core of the earth.

-electromagnets can simply be defined as magnets that are made using the flow of electric current. example: solenoid

uses: i believe you can find the answer to this on your own.

below is an interesting story about the earths magnetism, to better understand the answer, you may read the explanation.

explanation:

alright so the story starts in greece in an island called magnesia, people of that time used to wear wooden sandals or footwear with iron nails. what happened was when the shepherds took their sheeps to graze they noticed that their sandals were sticking to the ground and they were having problems lifting them. they digged into this, tried to figure it out in every way possible, some said it could be some force that is pulling the nails so they tried to do the same with rocks but as we know rocks do not have magnetic properties so they were obviously not going to be attracted. A german physicist of that time named carl friedrich Gauss then said that it the earths magnetism. the reason behind the earths magnetism is still a field of research in physics. the best explanation till date is that its produced due the motion of molten metallic fluids in the core of the earth. i'm guessing you know that flowing current produces magnetic field around it.
