The thickness varies from about 8 km at the poles to 18 km near the equator. The troposphere is also known as the weather-making zone because all physical processes of weather, like wind, clouds, storms, rainfall, mist, fog and hail, occur here.

The layer closest to the earth's surface is the one most important to a life on the planet, and it is called troposphere.Most of the weather phenomenon,systems,c convection,turbulence and clouds occur in this layer, although some may extends into the lower portion of the atmosphere.
