The mechanism of breathing is as follows :
- Human breathing is of 2 main pattern-
- normal,quiet breathing called eupnea
- strenous breathing called hyperpnea.
- In normal breathing, the breathing movement is brought about by diaphragm and external intercoastal muscles.
- During inhalation ,diaphragm contracts and increase the volume of thoracic cavity.
- The exhalation in this pattern of breathing is passive process.
- There is no muscular contraction involved during exhalation.
- 500 ml of air is sucked into the alveoli through conducting portion during inhalation
- 500 ml of air rushes out of the alveoli through the conducting portion during exhalation.
- Strenous breathing occurs during exercise .
- Both inhalation and exhalation are active transportation.
- 3 liter of air is inhaled during inhalation.
