Answer:

On increasing the temperature of solids , the kinetic energy of the particles increases. Due to the increase in kinetic energy , the particles start vibrating with greater speed. The temperature at which a solid melts to become a liquid at the atmospheric pressure is called its melting point.

Answer: The molecules in a solid are fixed at their place but can only vibrate about their mean position. On heating its molecules gain more kinetic energy and start to vibrate rapidly. After a time there molecules gain so much energy to overcome the mutual forces of attraction and therefore it melts.
