The judicial system is the name usually given to the authorities and agencies responsible for law and order and for legal security.It is the express purpose of the judicial system to uphold due process and the legal rights of the individual. The goal of criminal policy is to increase public security through the prevention of crime.The Swedish Judiciary, which comprises some 80 different agencies and boards, is an important part of the judicial system. It is vital that thecourts remain independent and free from the control of Parliament, Government and other authorities. The judicial system also includes crimeprevention agencies and authorities with an investigative role, such as the Swedish Police, the Prosecution Authority and the Swedish Economic Crime Authority as well as the Prison and Probation Service, the National Board of Forensic Medicine and Swedish Customs.
