Explain the modes of heat transfer taking place in a container filled with water kept on a stove.
Answers
Answer:
As we know there are three different modes of transfer of heat;
1. Conduction, 2. Convection & 3. Radiation
Conduction:- The mode of transfer of energy from one molecule to another by direct contact. It is that mode of transfer of heat in which heat is transferred from hot end to cold end of a solid due to vibrational motion of particles of the solid about their equilibrium position, heat being transferred from particle to particle without their actual displacement.
Ex:- When one end of an rod is kept inside fire and we are holding the other end of the rod then after sometime we will fill warmed, indicating that heat is transferred from hot end to cold end. This mode of transfer of heat is known as conduction. It happens in case of solid only.
Convection:- The mode of transfer of heat by a fluid such as water or gas. It is that mode of transfer of heat in which heat is transferred from one part to another part due to actual motion of heated particles of the medium.
Ex:- When a liquid kept in a container is heated at the bottom the heated molecules of the liquid move up and cold molecules lying at the top come down and in this way the whole liquid gets heated after sometime, this mode of heating is convection.
Radiation:- The mode of transfer of heat by electromagnetic waves. It is that mode of transfer of heat in which heat is transferred from one place to another place with speed of light without requiring any medium.
Ex:- Heat from sun reaches the surface of earth due to radiation.
