Crop variety is necessary because,

1) It gives higher yield or high harvest.

2)Biotic and Abiotic resistance- It means that if we improve crop variety, the plant can resist itself from diseases caused by insects and drastic climatic changes.

3)Wider Adaptability-It means that one crop variety which can be grown only in a particular season can be grown in other seasons also.

4)Change in maturity duration- It means that within a short duration a crop gets maturity and is ready to be harvested.

5)Desirable Agronomic characteristic features- they help to give higher productivity giving tallness and profuse branching in fodder crops and dwarfness in cereals so that less nutrients is consumed by crops.

6)Improved Quality- It preserves the fruits,oil seeds, and other crops for a long time..
