Answer:
The sole purpose of setting up the national parks and wildlife sanctuaries is to conserve the biodiversity i.e. the plants, animals, insects, birds and all the aquatic life of India. Any nation's sovereignty is not only defined by its infrastructural development, but also by the biodiversity it holds.
India having so much diversity in climate and biogeography has various categories of wild landscapes. These wild landscapes hold our nation's unique biodiversity. The biodiversity has a great role in balancing the ecosystems which ultimately is advantageous not only for humans but also to nature.
So, the main reason for setting up these protected areas is for the biodiversity and habitat conservation.
