Answer:

Nutrition in an Amoeba occurs through a process called phagocytosis where the entire organism pretty much engulfs the food it plans on eating up. The mode of nutrition in amoeba is known as holozoic nutrition. It involves the ingestion, digestion and egestion of food material.

Amoeba feeds by phagocytosis, a process in which the entire organism is engulfed. The following phases are included in the amoeba mode of nourishment process: Ingestion , digestion , absorption , assimilation  and egestion.

Explanation:

  • Ingestion - Ingestion is the process of ingesting food by either swallowing or absorption. The amoeba sends out pseudopodia to encircle and engulf the food, forming a food vacuole. Phagocytosis is the term for this process.
  • Digestion - The process of breaking down large insoluble molecules or food particles into little soluble molecules is known as digestion. The food vacuole in amoebae is driven deep into the cell, where digestive enzymes break down the big food particle into smaller, simpler components.
  • Absorption - It is the process through which nutrients from digested dietary material are absorbed by the cytoplasm of the cell. Glycogen and lipids are stored as a result of the excess diet. The particles that are not digested are left behind and are not absorbed.
  • Assimilation - In amoeba, the absorbed food molecule is used to provide the energy needed to carry out the many life activities within the cell.
  • Egestion - Egestion is the process of excreting or removing undesirable food molecules that the cell has not absorbed. The amoeba's cell membrane is broken and the waste is expelled from the body.
