Priestly discovered that plants could “refresh the air” so that a plant inside a bell jar could allow a mouse to breathe or a candle to burn. He didn’t know about photosysnthesis, at frst he kept a mouse inside a jar the mouse died because of lack of oxygen then he put plant with mouse in the next setup and the mouse lived hence he concluded that plants replenish something which was being utilised by the mouse.... and guess what was that yup !! that's oxygen.. that's how it was discovered that oxygen released during photosynthesis
