1. Due to less salary, people were unable to buy goods which help them mechanically so they had done work much by hand. These days, due to lot of machines, people are much addicted to these machines which help them do faster, easier and better.
(It is very common today)

2. As their was less technology in older days, people didn't wasted their time and focused much on their work. Rhese days, due to high technology and several devices, there is a lot of distractions to even start their work.
