The waxing gibbous phase occurs between the first quater and full moon phases. A full moon is when we can see the entire lit portion of the Moon. The full moon phase occurs when the Moon is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun, called opposition.

The moon orbits the earth in such a way that only one face of it is visible to us; the other side is not visible to us. The size and the shape of the Moon faces visible to us vary from time to time. These variation depend upon the position of the Sun, Earth and the Moon. The shapes of the bright part of the Moon that is visible to us at different times is called the phases of the Moon.

Different phases of the Moon :-

• New Moon
• Waxing Crescent
• First Quarter
• Waxing Gibbous
• Full Moon
• Waning Gibbous
• Third Quarter
• Waning Crescent
