Answer:

Changing states of matter occur when matter loses or absorbs energy. When a substance absorbs energy the atoms and molecules move more rapidly and this increased kinetic energy pushes particles far enough, that they change form. This energy is usually heat or thermal energy.

The change of state of matter takes place in cases where there is a change in pressure or temperature of a substance. The particles relax into a more rigid structure whenever the temperature drops.

Three states of Matter:

  1. Solid-state: In the solid form, the particles are packed closely to each other, and thus the intermolecular force of attraction between these particles are strong.
  2. Liquid-state: In a liquid state, the particles are quite separated from each other, and thus the intermolecular force of attraction between them is less.
  3. Gaseous-state: In the gaseous state, the particles are most separated and packed far from each other, and thus the intermolecular force between them is the least.

Reasons for Change in the matter:

  1. Sublimation: In this process, the substance undergoes conversion in the state of matter from solid to a gaseous state without going into liquid form.
  2. Melting: In this process, the substance changes from solid to liquid form.
  3. Freezing: In this process, the substance changes from a liquid to a solid form.
  4. Condensation: In this process, the substance changes from gaseous to liquid form.
  5. Deposition: In this process, the substance changes from a gaseous form into a solid form.
  6. Vaporisation: In this process, the substance changes from a liquid or solid to a gaseous form.
