position of elements in periodic table follows a particular principle.Table is divided as groups and periods.Elements having similar  properties are placed in a group.there are alkali metals,alkali earth metals,chalcogens ,halogens,noble gases,carbon famliy,boron familyetc.In these groups elements have some similar properties.
