- Tripod stand
- Beaker
- Test tube
- Water
- Spirit lamp (or) Bunsen burner
- Petridish
- Methylated spirit
- Dropper
- Iodine
- Take a leaf of a plant which is well exposed to sunlight
- Boil the leaf in methylated spirit over a water bath till it becomes pale white due to the absence of the pigment chlorophyll.
- Spread the leaf in petridish as well as add few drops of iodine solution
- Observe the leaf
- Blue - black colour indicates the presence of starch in the leaf
- Do not boil the spirit directly. It may have chance to caught flame.
- Boil the water bath with a medium or low flame
