Root hairs absorb water, PASSIVELY by diffusion due to TRANSPIRATION (98-99%) and ACTIVELY(1-2%). Energy for active absorption is obtained by respiration of Root Cells.

The absorbed water moves deep into root layers and reaches XYLEM by two pathways - APOPLAST and SYMPLAST.

In Aplostic movement, water dont cross the cell but move through intercellular spaces while water crosses the cell in Symplast. Xylem further transports water to all parts with the help of ROOT PRESSURE and TRANSPIRATION PULL.

Though, Minerals are absorbed ACTIVELY and PASSIVELY, most minerals are ACTIVELY absorbed.

Most minerals transported through SYMPLAST to cytoplasm of epidermis. Minerals are transported upward through transpiration stream.
