When is cocoon is completed by the worm the cocoon is then put in hot water. This loosens the silk but the worm dies.

silk worms feed on mulberry leaves. once they have had their fill, silkworms spin silk threads and form a sheath like structure around their bodies. this structure is called cocoon. silkworms change into pupa inside the cocoons. these cocoons are boiled to kill pupa and get silk fibre
