Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants utilize the radiant energy of the sun to synthesize food. It can broken down to three steps:
1)Light Reaction 1: Sunlight is trapped using chlorophyll present in chloroplasts. Here, energy dissipated from excited electrons is harnessed as ATP.
2)Light Reaction 2: Water is photodissociated into hydrogen and oxygen(actually not but correct for a beginner). Oxygen is eliminated through stomata and hydrogen is stored in NADP (FYI:Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide Phosphate is an energy currency abbreviated as NADP. It becomes NADPH to act as a reserve of hydrogen.
3)Dark Reaction: In the stroma of chloroplasts, carbon dioxide taken in by plants is reduced to glucose using hydrogen from NADPH.

Factors that influence this are amount of sunlight available, water and carbon dioxide. The availability of all these is directly proportional to the rate of photosynthesis. However:
(i) Photosynthesis rate drops after some time if CO2 and H2O levels continue to increase, as CO2 in excess is toxic and excess water in soil leads to anaerobic respiration of plant roots, killing it eventually due to excess of ethanol released by it in the process.
(ii) Photosynthesis rate becomes constant after some time if sunlight rate increases.
