When we inhale the air from our nasal passage, the air is filtered by mucus layer and hairs in our nasal cavity then it passes from a tube with cartilaginous rings called Trachea then the air is passed to two Bronchi to the lungs In the lungs bronchi divide into small tubules called bronchioles which in return are attached to  alvioles.Alvioles have very thin cell wall(1 cell thick) for the exchange of gases(CO2 and O2) in blood and lungs. During exhalation the same process repeats. We should know that inhalation is an active(energy is used) process while exhalation is a passive(energy is not used) process.
