the evaporation of water through leaves is called transpiration .Waste evaporates through stomata of leaves and lenticels of stem.
when the leaves transpire,there is a pulling effect on the continuous columns of water in the xylem vessels.The top ends of these vessels are surrounded by the leaf's mesophyll cells which contain cell sap ,so the water os continuous from tht xylem vessels to the walls of the mesophyll cells from which it evaporates into the air space causing the pull.The water column does not break because of its continuous molecular attraction.This is a property of water you demonstrate every time you drink through a straw.

\large{\underline{\mathrm{Transpiration\:\::-}}}

Transpiration is the evaporation of water from the leaves in the form of water vapour. Transpiration occurs in leaves through special structures present on them called stomata.

Transpiration is the process which help the plant in many ways -

  • Transpiration always occurs against the gravity.

  • It involves mainly the xylem cells which become active during absorption process by the roots.

  • Excess water is removed from the cells of the plant to prevent plant decay.

  • Osmotic balance of the cell is maintained by the process of transpiration.

  • It is the process which helps all the parts of the plant to cool them.

  • Transpiration helps in the distribution of dissolved substances to all parts of the plant.
