plants absorp water and minerals by roots .The roots have roots hair which increase the surface area for absorption . they have special vascular tissue which form pipelike vessels for transportation of water and minerals from roots to all parts and called as xylem. The food prepared in leaves is transported to all the parts by another tissue called phloem

Answer: The transportation in plants happens due to two reasons:

  • Root pressure theory: the cell that has no water takes water from the neighboring below cell for water.
  • Transpiration pull theory: since the surface of the leaves looses water through transpiration so that the cell above can get water from the cell below.

The xylem and phloem lie next to each other in the centre. when the food is moving and finally reaches the sink it is converted to starch. the glucose produced in the bit is converted to sucrose is transported to companion cells. when the food is concentrated it creates a hypertonic solution. The phloem carrying the food borrows water from xylem to make is less concentrated (isotonic) then, the food is converted to starch in the sink and the water is left behind left out water is sent back to xylem.
