When we walk on the ground the gravitational force enables us to keep our foot and in the process, ground pushes us forward which is called friction.
Here the third law of newton works. When there is ice on the ground and there is no friction you will not be able to move and slip instead when friction is low, it is better to slide otherwise you will fall.
