Properties of carbon:
A property of any compound has physical and chemical property.
Carbon - Physical properties:
- Carbon has wide forms in allotropes.
- The carbons are of various types which includes diamond and graphite.
- This element is strongest or weakest which depends on the form of the allotropes where diamond hardest and graphite weaker ones.
- The form of the carbon is solid where it can be brittle or made into thin wires according to the allotropes.
- This is a poor conductor of electricity and very good conductor of heat.
Carbon - Chemical properties:
- The chemical formal is 'C' with an atomic mass of 12.01 u.
- Carbon combines with oxygen to give carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.
- This element does not react with either acid or water.
- The carbon has a capability to form long chain of atoms.
- All the living organisms is composed of carbon.
