Root -

  • Root is the elongation of radicle.
  • Thimble like structure covers the apex of the root. This structure is called the root cap.
  • The root cap protects the root and also makes the way through the soil.
  • Then above the root cap, we have the region of meristematic activity.
  • Here, the cells are small, with dense protoplasm and thin walled.
  • They help in rapid division and elongates the root.
  • The area above this is region of elongation.
  • They are basically involved in the growth and enlargement of the root.
  • Then the region above this is said to be the region of maturation.
  • The cells here are differentiated and mature.
  • From this region, some epidermal cells form thin thread like structures.
  • These thread like structures are said to be the root hairs.
  • The root hairs help in absorption of minerals and water.
