Root -
- Root is the elongation of radicle.
- Thimble like structure covers the apex of the root. This structure is called the root cap.
- The root cap protects the root and also makes the way through the soil.
- Then above the root cap, we have the region of meristematic activity.
- Here, the cells are small, with dense protoplasm and thin walled.
- They help in rapid division and elongates the root.
- The area above this is region of elongation.
- They are basically involved in the growth and enlargement of the root.
- Then the region above this is said to be the region of maturation.
- The cells here are differentiated and mature.
- From this region, some epidermal cells form thin thread like structures.
- These thread like structures are said to be the root hairs.
- The root hairs help in absorption of minerals and water.
