in a democracy free and fair election is neccesory . this can be explained with the eg of china and mexico
china
1) elections held regularly to the country 's parliament , national people's congress . it has the power to appoint hte persident and has all most 3000 members
2) before contesting the election a candidate need the approval of chinese communist party . only the members of the party or the 8 small parties allied to it were sllowed to contest
3) the government is always formed by  the communist party

mexico
1)  got independence in 1930 .
2) hold election every 6 years
3) always won by PRI
4) PRI is known to use dirty tricks to win election
    a) government officers forced to attend party meetings
    b) teachers had to force parents to vote for PRI
   c) media ignored activities of other political parties
    d) polling booth chnged at last moment making it difficult for most people           to cast vote
these are not the examples of  a democracy
in china elections do notoffer much serious choices to people they have to choose the rulling party or the candidates approved by it
in mexico people had choice but in practical they had no choice . they were forced to vote for PRI
there was no way the rulling party could be defeated even though the people were against it . these are not fair election .
so a democracy mus be based on freea nad fair election where those who are currently in power have a fair chance to fail.
