Air cools as it rises water vapor condensed and form cumulus clouds. When condensation occurs heat is released and helps the thunderstorm to grow..

when the cold area from the upper atmosphere moves towards the ground and the hot air current from.the ground rushes upward. There is a friction between the air molecules which generates heat energy and results in the formation of thunderstorm.
