Citizens elected representatives to run the government. Election for both Central and State Legislature are normally held every 5 years. In case the government falls earlier, election may be held early. In our country, we have Universal adult franchise which means all citizens above the age of 18 years have the right to vote.

The Role of Citizens in Democracy. Sovereignty resides in and flows from the people of a country. They have a collective right to choose their governmental, political and electoral systems as an aspect of self-determination.
