The All India Muslim League that was formed with the intention of safeguarding the interests of the Muslims of the country in 1906, eventually bargained for a separate state of Pakistan, put forward by its leader, Sir Muhammad Iqbal
The formation of The All India Muslim League promoted the Hindus to come together to form the Hindu Mahasabha for similar interests for the Hindus.
With the decline of the Non-Cooperation-Khilafat movement, a big group of Muslims did not conform to the views of the Congress.
From the mid-1920s onward, the Congress seemed more in lieu with Hindu religious nationalist groups like the Hindu Mahasabha.
As relations between Hindus and Muslims worsened, each community organised religious processions with militant fervor, paving way for the Hindu-Muslim communal clashes. Every riot further weakened the relations between the two communities.
