Forests play a vital role in maintaining the balance between oxygen and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere because trees or plants are the only things which consume the carbon dioxide present in the environment and produce oxygen.
The oxygen produced by the trees or plants is the only for source present for human beings to stay alive but human beings are now digging their own graves by cutting down the trees and increasing pollution.

Animals release carbon-dioxide during respiration which is absorbed by plants. In this way the oxygen and carbon dioxide cycle goes on. Since forests contain a large number of plants and trees, they help in maintaining the balance between oxygen and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
