Explain how forests prevent floods.

It helps in controlling the flow of water and slows it down which helps in preventing flood .Also the trees present in the forest prevent the rain from directly hitting the ground and bind the soil to gether which help in absorption of the rain water and thus prevent flood

Forest prevents the flood by the following ways :

1. They \textbf{hold} up the soil..

2. They retards the flow of water.

3. They are also responsible for maintaing the excessive water, as they don't allow percolation of water from canopy
