Explain the role of Latin and Greek names in Biology.

Science started to develop during the Renaissance period were highly educated people of Europe know Greek and Latin.


The Latin seems to offer root word for the modernized science. Latin and Greek are used for the biological names because they have bigger and harder word and also have more syllabuses with abstract meaning.

The role for Latin and Greek words are used in classification especially in binomial classification.

In that the name of the author is kept in Roman script. The original names for these were taken from Latin and Greek languages. New names are now derived either from Latin language or are simply latinised. This is because Latin language is dead and, therefore, it will not change in form or spellings with the passage of time.

Barring obvious error in Latin and Greek languages or misprint, a scientific name retains its original spellings.

This is also because some of the great revolutionaries being either Latin or Greek from the origin of their languages
