"Vinoba" Bhave was a proponent of human rights and non-violence. He is also known for the "Bhoodan movement" .  He is regarded as the India's National Teacher & Mohandas Gandhi 's spiritual successor. He was the first person to be selected for the Satyagraha.

Explanation:

  • His mother Rukmini Devi inspired him. Rukmini Devi 's mother was a very devout person who gave a profound sense of spiritualism to Vinoba.
  • Rukma Devi was not only Vinoba 's mother and  but also an aesthetic ideal tutor. At the age of 42 on 24 October 1918 the great lady departed. Vinoba 's intense devotion to his mother was incomprehensible.
  • During her last days, his attachment for his mother had drawn  him close to his  mother. Vinoba tried to do the last rites of his mother, however he was not permitted to do so. Hence he did not attend the ceremonies but was sitting to read the Vedas, which his mother had taught him. He took two of her possessions with him after his mother's death. One was her wedding Sari and the idol of goddess Annapurna to that his mother had regularly made offerings. This reflects her most heartfelt devotion. While advocating for Khadi, he immersed his mother's sari in the Sabarmati River and handed over the Annapurna idol to Kasturi Bhai Gandhi.
