Women played a major role in Vietnam war.Thousands of women killed in the war. They were portrayed as young, brave and dedicated.Stories were written to show how happy they felt when they joined the army. some stories portrayed their incredible bravery and single handedly killing enemy in the battle filed.Nguyen Thi Xuan, was reputed to have shot down a jet with just twenty bullets. Women were represented not only as warriors but also as workers: they were shown with rifle in one hand and a hammer in the other. Young or old women began to be depicted as selflessly working and fighting to save the country.By 1970, women were no longer represented as warriors. Now the image of women as workers begins to predominate. They are shown working in agricultural cooperatives, factories and production units, rather than as fighters.

The government of North Vietnaminfluenced the role of women duringthe war of reunification during the mid-1960s, when mobilizing women was viewed as crucial to winning the war. ... They passed this resolution because, with so many Vietnamese men away at war, they needed more women to support the economy.
