Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807 – 1882) is considered one of the greatest Italian generals. An astute politician and nationalist, he is known for his leadership and diplomacy.
Known as one of the ‘Fathers of the Fatherland’, Garibaldi lead several successful military expeditions, which ultimately paved the way for unification of Italy in the 19th century.
His popularity in Italy as well as other countries was unparalleled. Great writers of the time like Victor Hugo and Alexandre Dumas spared no effort in praising him and his conquests.
