Press was the main instrument in awakening the sense of Patriotism and nationalism among the masses. A number of Indian newspapers were started in India which constantly criticised the policies of the government. 2. The press encouraged the people to unite against Colonial rule and fight for self rule.

Newspapers played a major role in the spreading of nationalism among the people of India. Famous leaders like Bal Gangadhar Tilak, B.R. Ambedkar, etc. issued some nationalist newspapers like The Kesari during the freedom struggle times. Newspapers would go to every person and give him/her some ideas about nationalism, equality & freedom struggle
