Explain the splitting of light inside a water droplet during the formation of rainbow.

First the light ray enters the drop which acts like a glass prism

It then refracts(enters from rareer to denser medium ) and get dispersed into 7 colours

Then it is internally reflected and then it's refracted again( comes out of the drop that is from deser to rareer medium)

A rainbow is natural spectrum appearing in the sky after a rain shower.It is caused by dispersion of light by tiny water droplets,present in the atmosphere. The water droplets act like small prisms. They refract and disperses the incident sunlight,then reflect it internally and finally , refract it again when it comes out of the raindrop .Due to the dispersion of light and internal reflection , different colours reach the observer's eyes.
