Keechak was the brother of Queen Sudeshna and was the commander of King Virat who ruled Viratnagar.

He had a very bad character so that he did not respect women. Although he came from a royal family yet he did not give due credit to a woman. When he saw Draupadi working as Malini, in disguise, he wanted her and ordered her to bring wine for him.

When Draupadi did not bring it, Keechak harassed her and also misbehaved with her. This was the same type of attitude that the British imperialists also had upon Indians who tortured the native people of the country at the time of their rule.

When the audience was watching the play, Keechakvada, it got them reminded of the British rule. Hence, they started to get enraged
